What this site keeps
Updated October 12, 2026.
- Readers: reading needs no account. The front page sets no cookie. Pages with a form set one security cookie that protects the form.
- Members: your handle, a one-way hash of your password, when you joined and last signed in, and what you file. No email address, no real name. A sign-in cookie keeps you signed in.
- Limits and reports: to enforce daily limits and count each reader’s report once, the site keeps a salted one-way hash of your connection’s address and of its network, never the address itself. Separately, the web server’s access logs record addresses for a short period for security, as on most websites.
- Legal notices: what you send in a notice is kept for review and never published.
- No tracking: no advertising, no analytics, no third-party scripts or fonts. Source links go to other sites only when you click them.
- Deleting: deleting your account deletes your timelines and events at once. If something you posted is hidden pending review, the delete waits until the site owner has reviewed it. Nightly database backups are kept for 14 days.
